Kasol in Himachal Pradesh is the go-to place for all the hippies & green lovers. Located on the banks of the Parvati River, Kasol is a small town in the Kullu District.
Lately, Kasol has been backpackers go-to destination during summers. As the weather here is pretty cool during summer & Indian summer is something. Apart from the climate & location, Kasol is famous for its green product whose consumption is on a rise.
How To Reach Kasol?
Delhi is the nearest international airport & from Delhi distance to Kasol is approx 500 Km; one needs to catch a bus from Delhi to reach Kasol. It takes approx 15 or 16 hours to reach Kasol from Delhi. But, the time taken to reach the place varies with the season. Hence, it is recommended to check the condition of roads & also weather before making a plan for this place.Things To Do In Kasol:
For the first-timers, there are many activities to do. But, one should only make plans for 2 to 3 days which are more than enough to cover this place. So, here is the list of thingsCafe
For all those, who want to just relax. Cafes are the options, one can find several cafes to choose from. Iranian cafes & bakeries are highly praised at this part of India, which makes it one of the best things to do.Camping
Looking for some adventure, book a campsite with a local vendor. The camping site next to Parvati River can't be experienced anywhere else. Bonfire, music, food & booze in the chilled environment is worth trying.Hike & Trekking
Bored of camping & cafes then don your trekking shoes & trek/hike to nearby villages. The villages are beautiful without saying & is a good activity to try. Chalal trek is one of the most visited treks near KasolManikarn Gurudwara
Manikarn Gurudwara is approx 5 Km from Kasol. It can be reached via walk if one has that stamina or through a bike. Motorbikes are easily available in the town.Tosh & Kheerganga
Tosh & Kheerganga requires 2 to 3 additional days. Both the places are beautiful & awesome & must be done. Kheerganga trek is of approx 4 to 5 hours & overnight stay is required. Tosh is a small village & a day stay is enough until & unless you are in love with the place.Apart from the above activities, many people cover the trial Manali to Kasol. This is also famous among the travelers. But, I would suggest not wasting time while commuting. Choose a place & spend a few days in peace
How Much Money Is Required?
On average a budget of Rs 500 to 1000 per day per person is enough. Kasol hotels are pretty cheap during the offseason, but the rate might increase in the summertime. So, you can complete Kasol trip inside Rs 5000 per person which includes bus tickets (Rs 1500 per person one way) as well.My Experience:
For me, Kasol was big disappointment purely for one reason "GARBAGE". There was litter everywhere in the market. It is disheartening to see what a man can do to nature & also it was like a fair. There were so many people, so many vehicles & so much honking. I was confused if I am in some village or in some small city. For these reasons, I didn't like my stay at Kasol. Still, for the first timers, the place is worth a visit; just make sure you are away from the crowded place.Kasol trip was not all bonkers; huge pine trees covering the pathway; the sound of thunderous Parvati flowing at some distance; the view of mighty Himalayas from the bedroom window; a strange silence in the woods & a sky full of stars. The image of the place will be engraved in the mind of the person. Kasol will trip you with its nature. A suitable word would be High On Himachal.
A trip is incomplete without the pics. During the time of this trip, I had iPhone 4 which didn't had a great camera. Hence, photos are bit weird. But, last year I bought iPhone 6 which drastically improved my pictures. So, I would recommend you buying a great camera phone to take some breath taking pics.
Apart from a phone camera, I use GoPro an adventure camera to shoot video & click photos. The product is pretty handy & captures mind blogging videos. GoPro is easy & handy to use, which makes it a must buy.
These are the two essentials which I carry on my trip.
