Thailand has recently risen to one of the finest countries to travel too (Recently Kayak.com has recommended Thailand as the best destination for backpackers.) There are numbers of factors responsible for the popularity of Thailand & some of these reasons are easy visa norms, vibrant culture & welcoming people.
Thailand by far is one of the cheapest destinations in South East Asia & any traveler who fancies traveling the world must have visited this place or will be having this country on the list. This was my first ever trip to Thailand & I chose Bangkok & Pattaya as my destinations. Being a budget traveler. I traveled to this country on a budget & based on my experience here is Bangkok Travel Guide.
Bangkok has tonnes of attractions for everyone ranging from world-class malls to museums, from clubs to the ruin city. Bangkok 3 or 4-day tours are popular among the backpackers. 3 to 4 days are sufficient to cover the Bangkok city.
However, the vibe of the place is so good that many western people spend a month or more here.
Bangkok was never on my travel list. I wanted to travel to Bali for 13 days but I was not able to find any good deals on flights. So, decided to travel to Bangkok to Bali. This is how Bangkok came into my itinerary. I booked a flight from Chennai to Bangkok for Rs 6k. (I stay in Mumbai, I traveled to Chennai in train to keep a check on my budget).
I reached Chennai in the afternoon & had a flight at night I was standing in queue little nervous, I tried to crack a conversation with a stranger who was an Indian but was working in Bangkok. I enquired about the process for visa on arrival; he told me "You need to show 10,000 THB on arrival (I had only 5,000 THB in cash & 250 USD) I got nervous but tried to hide it. I boarded the flight still nervous, a few hours later.
How To Reach Bangkok, Thailand:

There are many search engine I use to find the cheapest flights available. You can choose a search engine based on your likes.
Another way to reach is via Bus. There are plenty of options available to reach Bangakok via bus. You can check the same from here Buses to Bangakok.

Khao San Road:
No matter from where you come, this road is touched by each & every traveler while traveling to Bangkok. This place is on the list of every backpacker. The reason is pretty simple, the place is electrifying. The 100 mt road lits up around 10 or 11 pm & it stays this way till the early morning hours. The road has pubs, bars, cafes & what not. If you don't like loud music, then you should be better off this place. But, anyone who is a party lover & want to enjoy careless life. This road is for you my friend. Just enjoy your time here.Nana Plaza:
Most famous reason to visit Bangkok is to visit its red light area. The very famous adult area is a touristic attraction. The ideal time to visit the place is after 8 o clock.
The crowd builds up slowly. Adult shows are the prime attraction of this place & no matter how people see this place, this place has lots of visitors.
MBK:
Shopping at this place is a special treat. 3 unending malls are the best place to shop. One can every brand ranging widely. So, depending on the budget one can choose his or her stuff. The luxury brands are attractive & with so many options available it is literary impossible to miss the opportunity.
If you don't want to buy and luxurious items, don't be sad. There is a mall just opposite to these 3 mega malls, which is built to cater to the needs of ordinary citizens. The wholesale market has good variants & great product line. The fancy items are worth a buy. Ladies will have a fantastic time visiting these places.
Temples:
Thailand is a Buddhist country. So Buddha Temples are one of the major attraction here. There are plenty of places where one can have a religious trip.
The Grand Buddha is the place to visit. Pay your respect to the lord while traveling in the city.
Chinatown:
A cheap shopping place in Bangkok. one can find anything here. Great places to eat. Ultimate architecture. Cycle rides are famous here. If you are interested in the street market then this place is for you. Lately China market has become an attraction in every big city. The first copy of the products & the price tags make is exciting to visit. Why spend more if one can get near about same product at reasonable rate.Ferry rides:
AAll movies which are shot here will definitely have a ferry scene. A small canal running across Bangkok is a way to commute. The maximum ticket is THB 14, a nice way to commute here & one of many things to experience. Traveling on the ferry is fun & fast as well. I would love to ride a ferry again. It is fun.Apart from these, Bangkok floating market is very famous among the travelers. I was not interested thus, I skipped this attraction.
Bangkok On Budget:
I spent Rs 12,000 for 4 days trip to Bangkok & Pattaya. Following are the places where I spent my money.Flights:
I checked flights from skyscanner. Best part of skyscanner is that one can check on lowest prices from any place. Flights are cheaper from Kolkata, chennai & Kochi. I booked from Chennai at a cost of Rs 6000.Stay:
I booked a hostel for 4 days through booking.com. I only have to pay 250 THB for one booked. The hostel was next to Khao San Road. It was cheap compared to the location & also one of the best. I would recommend booking The Aris hostel prior to reaching.Transport:
I used public transport, I took buses to all the major attraction even metros. I saved alot in this way as charges of public transport were very minimum. Bus rides hardly cost anything, one way ferry cost was 14 THB.Food:
Food is never an issue in Bangkok. I ate street food as it helped me to customize it as per my liking; else it was very difficult to eat veg food without having any non veg content on it. The cost of noodle starts from THB 30 . For people who want beer, the best place is to buy from 7 Eleven , this store is nearly at every corner. Offers booze at as low as THB 18. The same drink will cost THB 100 in restaurants. This helps in keeping the price lowThis is Bangkok Travel Guide for solo backpackers. I have not covered each & every corner but I managed to cover most part of it. The vibe is amazing & worth a visit. After, Bangkok my next stop was Pattaya. From Bangkok to Pattaya it is a 2-hour drive.
Handy Resources:
Below are the few resources you should check before making an itinerary.Agoda: Best place to book hotels of your liking. Agoda provides the best solution & great offer while booking a hotel.
Skyscanner: Skyscanner compares various sites & sort the flights based on the rates. A great way to check flight cost. Although the only drawback is that rates are flexible. Hence, the cost might change while you are making the payment.
Jetradar: Jetradar is a comparing site which is just like Skyscanner. But, is much more accurate & much more handy in use.
Booking: Best place to book hostel rooms. There are plenty of options available & with so many properties booking becomes much easier.
Couchsurfing: Best place to find free accommodation. It is as easy as filtering people & messaging. If you will get lucky you will find free accommodation in local resident house.
Travel Insurance: There are numerous options available to get one. So, you can choose anything which suits your requirement. Make sure you read the terms & conditions before buying one.
