2024 is here, and it’s finally time to embark on a new adventure. After months without a break, I decided to book my tickets and enjoy some well-deserved free time. Japan had always been a dream destination for me, and this seemed like the perfect moment to explore its wonders.

Japan, with its picture-perfect scenery and futuristic charm, has been the talk of social media lately. To turn my dream into reality, I booked my flight through Skyscanner. The layover flight from Mumbai cost me around 40k INR for a return ticket, making it an affordable gateway to an incredible experience.

Once my flight was booked, the next crucial step was obtaining my Japan Visa for Indians. Fortunately for people in Mumbai, there’s no need to book an appointment. You can directly visit the embassy and submit your documents. Here’s the list of information required for the application:


Required Documents for Japan Visa Application:

1: Passport: Valid for at least six months beyond the date of your entry into Japan. Ensure it has at least two blank pages.

2. Visa Application Form:Fill out the form available on the official website of the Embassy of Japan. You can find the application at this link Visa Form. Fill the form before visiting the embassy.

3. Photograph:One recent passport-sized photograph (2 x 2 inches) with a white background.

4. Flight Itinerary:Printout of confirmed flight tickets (both to and from Japan). Usually people choose skyscanner for booking flights. However, trip.com is also a great alternate to book the flights you can use following widget to make booking.



5. Accommodation Details:Proof of hotel bookings or an invitation letter from a host in Japan.It is mandatory to book hotels/hostels before applying for the visa. There are few good website to book hostels like booking & hostelworld.com



6. Travel Itinerary: Detailed itinerary of your stay in Japan comprising of day to day routine of places to be visited.

7. Financial Proof:Bank statements for the last six months, income tax returns, and salary slips (if employed).

8. Cover Letter:A letter stating the purpose of your visit, duration, and any other relevant details.The cover letter is to be addressed to Embassy of Japan.


The cost for the visa application was Rs 500, and the courier charges were approximately Rs 1300 – 1400. The entire process was smooth, and I received my visa the following week. The overall experience was hassle-free and efficient.
